Gootter Foundation to Donate Life-Saving Defibrillators
Tucson, Ariz --- The Steven M. Gootter Foundation is pleased to announce that it is donating AED’s
(automated external defibrillators) to all Southern Arizona public and private high schools that do not
currently have these life saving devices. In addition, the Foundation is also donating AED’s to all six
Tucson Boys and Girls Clubs and The Jim Reffkin Tennis Center (formerly Randolph Tennis Center).
A letter from the Steven M. Gootter Foundation is being mailed this week offering them each the
donation of this revolutionary devise that has saved many lives of those at risk for Sudden Cardiac
Death. The board of directors and the supporters of the Steven M. Gootter Foundation are
committed to sparing families the tragedy of losing a loved one to this silent killer that takes 1,000
lives
a day, more than cancer and AIDS combined.
Combating the disease which took the life of 42 year old Steve Gootter in 2005 has been the driving
force of this dynamic foundation. In the 4 years since his untimely death, over a million dollars has been
raised through the annual Gootter Grand Slam event. The money has been used to fund research
projects and create the Steven M. Gootter Endowed Chair for the Prevention and Treatment of
Sudden Cardiac Death at the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center.
All schools and institutions will receive training on the AED’s from the University of Arizona Sarver Heart Center’s doctors and professionals.
The Steven M. Gootter Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization dedicated to the
mission of defeating sudden cardiac death (SCD), the leading cause of natural death in the United States.
To achieve this mission, the Foundation has partnered with the University of Arizona
Sarver Heart Center to fund scientific research into the causes and prevention of sudden cardiac death.
The Foundation works to increase awareness of the disease among those who may be at risk, and it
fosters education about SCD among health care professionals and the general public.
